First things first, NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO ASK FOR ROMS, WHERE TO DOWNLOAD ROMS/GAMES OR ANY SUCH ILLEGAL REQUESTS- THESE WILL BE DELETED AND THE USER WARNED- good clear? NiceOk lets get started
What is GGPO?
It's a special investment fund where you can get up to 5 percent returns in 3 financia....wait no that's not it.
It's a PC program that lets you play from a choice of many various arcade games online with other uses around the world. You simply load up the program, choose the appropriate game room (so if you want to play 3rd Strike- you enter the 3rd strike room) and there you will see a list of players. Some will be waiting in the room to challenge someone or be challenged, or some will be playing the game with someone.
If you want to fight someone you can give or accept a challenge, and you can also spectate the fights of people already watching.
If you want to play me for example, then we get in touch over some other medium like PM here or msn/skype and we both enter the lobby- then you simply find my name and challenge me and we can fight with awesome netcode!
Can I use my arcade stick/game pad with GGPO?
If you have a USB controller such as say the madcatz SFIV pad or pretty much any USB arcade stick, it should be plug and play to set it up. I'll get on how to configure it further down in the install instructions.
How powerful a PC do I need to use GGPO?
I think whatever mame or other arcade emulator that can run the games you want to play, GGPO can pretty much run it to the same ability and probably better. I can't give you a definate answer on what can run it well, but I can give you my specs. My PC runs GGPO flawlessly with all games running at full original framerate
Athlon X2 7750, 2gb DDR2 ram, Ati HD4770
I'm pretty sure it can run on even more modest systems. Perhaps other uses could post their specs, but it should work fine.
Ok how do I install this mofo?
This was how I did it on Windows 7 32 bit- the proccess should be similar/identical for XP/Vista
Go here
http://ggpo.net/download/
Download and install both the adobe air thingy and then GGPO
(You can do this next step anytime you want, but I did it next)
Start up GGPO and it will ask you for a username/password- use the register link to register an account
Next, assuming you let GGPO install to its default location, go to your hard drive-->Program Files-->GGPO folder. Here, if there isn't a folder already called "ROMs", then right click and choose make new folder and name ir "ROMs". Then put all the games you own in that folder.
Next you'll want to try and see if the games work and to configure your keys/buttons for your keyboard stick whatever.
In your hard drive-->Program Files-->GGPO folder, there should be an executable called "ggpofba". Load this up and go to the toolbar at the top and choose "Game" then "Load Game". Load whichever game you want to play, for example 3rd Strike and let it load. Then again, on the toolbar, go to "Game" and then "Map Inputs". Here you can configure your controller. You only need to do it once, but you need to do it once for every individual game. Once you have it set, those same controls will work online. If you ever want to play the games offline against the CPU for whatever reason, then "ggpofba" is the way to do it.
Once that's done- you should pretty much be ready to play online bar one more thing. You have to foward the ports in your router- the ports are listed here
http://ggpo.net/download/
I can't give you a guide on how to do that as every router is different, but its common knowledge nowadays so if you don't know how you can google it pretty easily.
Once that's done, load up GGPO from your Start Bar or desktop and log in with your registered username and password and you're good to go! Just find the game you want then go into the lobby to either chat, spectate or play.
Now that you know how, the primary focus of this thread is to organise games with other forum members, at least until the happy day when we hopefully get 3rd Strike on XBLA and PSN
Anyway, off you go and lets arrange some games! We can organise playing together by doing voice chat over skype while we play and we can spectate while others play so we could set up a system pretty easily to play together in a lobby format. For example, me, Jonster, Gerbik, Donut are all wanting to play each other- the two people playing can play 5 games or whatever while the others watch then people can swap over instantly with a few clicks

“Street Fighter IV looked great and they’ve done a great job, and I’m a big fan of those products, but with KI we want to do something different rather than go back into that arena,” he said.
“It’s about timing, and it’s about the opportunity creatively and gameplay-wise that it would offer… I think it’s about doing something different than with a conventional controller.”
George Andreas, head of design at Rare, went on to amplify Betteridge’s suggestions, after claiming that the studio would focus on making a Killer Instinct game for “the masses”.
