I still think the Japanese are the worst when it comes to Internet Addiction. They are actually MARRYING their online girlfriend inside videogames and divorcing eachother LEGALLY. I thought I was getting a little out of hand with the internet use, and I an online about two hours a day. Damn…

dead right. koreans are the worst when it comes to addiction. they even have some internet cafes which have 2-person cubicles if some couples decide to date while playing online together. (kinda fun in my opinion. if done like once in 3 months haha)

World of Warcraft players are the worst. I read about kids dying because they won’t stop grinding and looting to get up and go to the bathroom.

I am on the internet all day for work, am I addicted? I think not. I break the 2 hours in leaps and bounds a day from work and home. Internet addiction apparently is select to teens. What a joke. What will these addicts do after college and get a desk job which has a computer sitting on it?

I believe in internet addiction and I believe I suffered from it as a teenager. I remember spending up to 6 hours at a time doing absolutely nothing but staring at the screen, signed into my AOL account. I know someone who flunked two semesters of college due to a similar experience. I was never that bad though. I’m definitely on the internet for more than 2 hours a day nowadays, but mostly just for news, boredom breaks, and to floss my mental cavities.

Dianna,
They will spend all day on Mental Floss.
Er…that’s what I would imagine they would do…from what a friend told me…

There is nothing resembling Internet Addiction in the current versions of ICD-9 or DSM-IV, but we’ll have to take another look when the new, greatly expanded ICD-10 is adopted in a few years.

I know tons of teenagers in High School that neglected their school work, social interacions and bodies to play World of Warcraft. Now they are all fat losers that hold minimum wage jobs and live with their parents. I would call that addiction!

It’s a bit scary to think what we’re dealing with here. I’ve been online enarly all the time for 10 years. Am I addicted? Well I don’t get ‘hunger pangs’ when offline, I don’t “HAVE TO” check my email. Often, it’s quite peaceful when I’m not online :P

Man, I cringed when I saw “at least two hours.” I spend way more than that, but that’s because of work and research. I hate using the Internet so much, but it’s a necessary evil nowadays. I love it when I’m busy enough to forgo it, but that’s not often enough. I guess it all comes down to compulsion, which I don’t suffer from, thankfully.

Well the internet addiction issue is more or less an exaggeration on the more extreme cases of internet use, especially on teens whom play online games so frequently. In spite of this I believe that in this time and age spending more than two hours on the internet is essential if one wants to get as much info as possible, and anything more than that is purely “play”.
